In July, an OUR Rescue Survivor Care manager was waiting to testify as an expert witness for a baby trafficking case in Jakarta, Indonesia. We are excited to share an update on this case and the remarkable progress that’s been made, thanks to the support of our donors and the tireless efforts of our incredible Survivor Care team in Indonesia.  
The two perpetrators who were trafficking five babies have been sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Additionally, two of the babies have been safely repatriated to their families in different regions, marking a step towards healing and hope. The other three babies remain in government custody and the OUR Rescue Survivor Care team is committed to supporting their ongoing needs.

This is the story of Mai, a single mother, at a time when hope felt distant. When COVID-19 lockdowns forced the Thai massage parlor where she worked to shut down, she became desperate to provide for her family and found a page recruiting masseuses in Dubai. It looked legitimate and a great way to support her children and mother. Arrangements were made, and she set off, hopeful. When she arrived in Dubai, they took her and locked her in a building to be sold to customers for sex. The doors were guarded, and surveillance cameras watched their every move. There was no way of escape. She survived and paid for food with the tips from customers. For two months she was moved around from place to place to be trafficked. With access to a phone, she contacted the police with no success because she did not speak the language. She finally was able to get in contact with the Thai embassy who worked with police to raid the shop, arrest the traffickers, and bring her to safety.
