Until 1947 palestine was the name of the whole territory. Both jews and arabs of the land were “Palestinians” and even jews called the land “Falestina”. When the state of Israel was established, the Jews became Israelis and left the “Palestinians” behind, and the Arabs got pushed out of "Israel" when they disagreed with the changes. Instead of finding common ground, the Arabs were forced to defend their territory, and when that didn't work, they had to occupy what little that they could hold onto, which is part of the West bank/Gaza strip. So now, “Palestinians” are the Arabs who live in the occupied west bank - occupied in 1967- and the Arabs who live amongst Jews in the state of Israel are Israeli-Palestinians.
